"Welcome to Pickering" is a phrase that you hear a lot here! It can accurately characterize this community as open, friendly and involved. People in Pickering get together with their neighbors over a BBQ and discuss the recent events from our local paper, The Ajax Pickering News Advertiser.

Pickering is a city literally next to Toronto, located just across the Rouge Valley. If you work in downtown Toronto or just want to take in a ball game, you're only a short 30 minute Go Train ride into Union Station.

The recently renovated Pickering Mall provides a refreshingly great atmosphere to shop. There are many local grocery stores and convenience shops throughout Pickering in addition to a wide variety of restaurants that cover all the taste buds of the world.

The Pickering Recreation Centre is a modern facility equipped with everything you will need to work up a good sweat. It offers an expansive work out gym, tennis and squash courts and swimming pools.

If you enjoy the great outdoors you can walk the Seaton Hiking Trail. The Rouge Valley forms the western boundary of Pickering and contains Canada's largest urban park, full of additional hiking trails. Fisherman can still be seen enjoying the thrill of a big catch in the Rouge River.

If you love the theatre, then you'll enjoy a night out at the Herongate Barn Theatre. It's located in the north end, out in the country and in the unique setting of an old barn. It truly makes a great outing for dinner and live entertainment.

Just north of the theatre is the quaint village of Whitevale. It's located in a large track of land designated for development into the newly planned community of Seaton. This will be an urban development planned with concepts and strategies that will minimize impacts on the environment.

In the south end of Pickering is Frenchman's Bay. Here you can stroll along the waterfront trails and boardwalks or just relax on the many park benches and watch the sailboats and waterfront wildlife.

Pickering has it all! It has the schools or daycare, the shopping, the excellent transportation and many leisure and entertainment choices. Most important, it has friendly people.   This small city next to Toronto is a great place to live. It remains close enough to Toronto but far enough away to still feel you're close to the country.
